It is a mentoring programme that supports students who have transitioned into third level education. The programme is offered to students who are linked with Student Services and the Access Office. The programme’s aim is to help and support students as they settle into life in Third Level . Have a look . Why Get Involved? The transition to Third Level can be a difficult time and having a mentor there to help guide you is a great support to help you settle in quickly and make the most of your time in GMIT. They are there to listen, offer support and guide you to the resources that will be important during your studies. See here . Who are the Mentors? The mentors are employees of the college, working in roles such as administration, student support and our academic staff. Mentors are selected based on their willingness and capability to support a student, their knowledge of the college and its processes and their interest in the welfare of students. What’s Expected of Mentees? Mentees meet their mentor once a month for an hour on campus. Mentees can meet their mentor for a coffee, get lunch together or go for a walk around the campus. What supports are offered? Mentees will be assigned a staff member who will support their match throughout the year. Mentees can contact the staff person if they have any questions or concerns. Mentees also attend a training session with Foróige to prepare for the mentoring programme.
